Happy Birthday Becky!

My sister Becky turns 23 today. Wow.

I'm glad I am going to be seeing her in Tokyo this weekend. It will be good to see her again. Interestingly, two years ago I was in Sevilla, Spain with Becky for her 21st birthday... we may have to make this an annual event :)

It's a Small World

Becky woke me up this morning (she forgot that CA is 2 hours behind home). It was great to talk to her; I have not talked with her since she made it over to Japan. She is really enjoying it and starting to become more literate.

A funny thing happened to her the other day: she went to a new school and was introducing herself to the class. Most people over there don't really know where South Dakota is, but the teacher from that class had lived in SD. In fact, he lived in Carpenter, SD! Talk about a small world. What are the chances of a teacher in Japan having lived in a town of 7 people in the middle of South Dakota.

When I called Kristin this morning, she was so excited. Kristin is pretty sure she knows who it is too. :)

My Family in DC

My family took a vacation to DC last week. Here are a few photos from the days I was able to be with them.

The first day we were in DC, the family took Anna on the metro to see the National Mall. As soon as we got off the subway, I got to show Anna the Washington and Lincoln monuments and the US Capital. She was very excited!

This is my favorite photo from the week. As we were walking through the Vietnam memorial, I saw Anna looking at the wall and I thought it would be a touching picture with her reading a name.

Becky is going to Japan!

Last night Becky called me with great news: she was accepted to teach English in Japan for a year! Woo! I guess that means I will have to go visit her...
